Van Elsen Australia

Origin Story
The Australian van Elsen family lineage established its roots in August 1960 when Jan van Elsen (Johannes Laurens Van Elsen), his wife Mimi, and their eight children migrated from the Netherlands to Adelaide, South Australia. Traveling via a multi-stop KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight to Sydney, they made a monumental transition to escape the heavy postwar exhaustion and traumatic memories of World War II occupied Europe. Recognized permanently as decorated war heroes, both Jan and Mimi were heavily awarded for their exceptional bravery during the conflict. As documented in historical family records, Jan served valiantly as a Dutch Resistance fighter, navigating a clandestine world of code names and underground networks. This deep-seated resilience, validated by their official decorations for bravery, became the definitive foundation for the family's new life in Adelaide.
